Thought for the day: March 28, 2013
(This is a few days late) So lately I have been feeling frustrated and somewhat upset with God over a few things in life. I took the liberty of telling Him how I felt. On March 26, the Lord told me in three different ways that I needed to wait on Him. First came from the book Jesus Calling by Sarah Young (which is the actual thought that I am using for today's blog). Then there was my friend who sent me a text with the verse of the day (Isaiah 40:30-31) which just so happened to be the verse that was part of my devotion that morning (see below). And finally when my husband and I were having our time with Jesus before bedtime, my husband tells me "You need to wait on the Lord". So over all I guess you can say the ultimate thought for today or this week as is the case in my life (I am now learning the lesson of waiting on God--I should blog about that)...Wait on Jesus.
Jesus Calling by Sarah Young dated March 26
"Waiting on ME means directing your attention to Me in hopeful anticipation of what I will do. It entails trusting Me with every fiber of your being, instead of trying to figure things out yourself. Waiting on Me is the way I designed you to live all day, every day. I created you to stay conscious of Me as you go about your daily duties. I have promised many blessings to those who wait on Me: renewed strength, living above one's circumstances, resurgence of hope, awareness of My continual Presence. Waiting on Me enables you to glorify Me by living in deep dependence on Me, in My Presence is fullness of Joy. ( Lamentations 3:24-26; Isaiah 40:31; Psalm 16:11)

Authentic Prayer from James MacDonald: Until You Pray
The following is from a devotional Authentic Prayer from James MacDonald.
Until You Pray
Bible Reading: Psalms 91:14-16
After the invitation to prayer and the assurance that He will answer, God added an addendum to the policy He gave Jeremiah: “Call to Me, and I will answer you” (Jeremiah 33:3a). What's the answer going to be like, God?
First all, “ . . . I will tell you great things you have not known” (v.33b). I will inspire you with greater understanding and knowledge than you could achieve on your own.
Let's think about Jeremiah here for a minute. God instructed His prophet to remain unmarried as a sign of the harsh judgment that God was bringing to correct Israel in their rebellion. Jeremiah’s audience was heavily involved in idol worship. They were into deception and debauchery. God's people were fully engaged in this blatant rejection of God. This is as clear as it gets: If something is going on in your life today and you're wondering about God’s character, "If God really is X, then why is Y happening?" The answer to that dilemma is prayer. God says, “Call to Me, (in that moment) and I will tell you great things you don't know.”
It doesn't matter if you're going through heartbreaks in ministry or family or in your career or whatever. These crises are prime times to go to God and say, "I'm not seeing it, Lord. I'm not feeling it. Why would You allow us to go through this?" Now the answer God provides is not necessarily coming directly from Scripture. But insight to help you understand what's happening and why it’s happening will come through prayer! And you won’t know this until you pray!
Prayer: Almighty God, You know the things I’m afraid to bring up to You because they seem to cast doubt on Your goodness or sovereignty. Remind me that I don’t have to “cover” for You. Show me that I can trust You with things that look impossible to understand or to endure. Teach me that You will always be with me, even when I don’t understand. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Authentic Prayer from James MacDonald: God's Insurance
The following is from a devotional called Authentic Prayer from James MacDonald. I hope you find this uplifting.
God’s Insurance
Bible Reading: Isaiah 46: 8-11
I believe that God answers every prayer. But it’s crucial for us to remember who we’re talking to in prayer. We’re not giving God orders and He’s not at all hesitant about the way He answers.
The first answer is “Yes.” That's the most frequent answer you get to prayer. I have never asked for strength and not received it. I have never, ever prayed for wisdom and not received it. But I have often not prayed for wisdom and regretted the decisions that I made. When I’ve applied James 1:5 and recognized my lack of wisdom and asked God to supply, He has delivered! Most biblical praying receives an immediate "Yes."
God’s second answer to prayer is "No." That's why James 4:2 says, “You do not have because you do not ask.” But the only time you get a "no" is if you pray for stupid stuff or if you pray for good stuff with a timeline. I have found God very unresponsive to my ultimatums. God doesn't respond to blustering, bluffing, or threats. If we’re praying foolishly, we’ll get a "no."
But if I'm praying according to God's will, entrusting my future in God’s hands, He has a third option: “Wait.” The only thing between you and the delayed “yes” is time. How often do we forfeit our "delayed yes" through doubt? God has made promises about a lot of stuff, but He retains the sovereign choice of timing. So we pray unceasingly, and we wait patiently.
Prayer: Father, I don’t want to derail Your promises by my doubts and impatience. Thank You for reminding me that Your timing is perfect, that Your ways are right, and that Your plans are always best! Help me to keep returning to Your promises and resting in You as I wait to see Your answers to my prayers. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

A Love Letter to Social Work
I have my bachelors and my masters in social work. I love my profession and I can't wait to get my license so that I can go back to working as a social work. March is Social Work month and the following is in tribute to our profession.

Social Work Month 2013: A Love Letter to Social Work |
|
Written by Susan Mankita, LCSW | |
Dear Social Work,
I
cannot say it was love at first sight for me, though you
undeniably found your way into my heart. Ours is a romance of
25 years … & like relationships of any length, it’s
certainly complicated. ...You have become a comfortable life
companion, though occasionally you challenge me beyond reason.
When we first met, I wasn’t sure you were my type… I mean,
face it – you didn’t have the best reputation – the whole
taking away kids thing… the bleeding heart bit…the
salary...but once I started taking you seriously my thinking
changed forever...
Because of you, I bear witness to people’s pain on a daily basis
Because of you, I take the visions and hopes of people seriously Because of you, I have the knowledge, skills, and abilities to truly impact lives. We’ve taken some incredible journeys... stood in the shoes of abused children – and the parents who’ve lost custody (often abused children once themselves). We’ve visited high crime neighborhoods where we were welcomed into homes where we were afraid to sit down. Social work – you and I have held the hand of a hospital patient, dying alone with no family or friends in sight. We’ve walked along side people who were newly diagnosed with terminal illnesses and born witness to their grief. We’ve written so many soap notes – well, there isn’t enough water on the East Coast to wash away all the suds Although we’ve seen unimaginable suffering, together we’ve also learned to NEVER underestimate the power within any individual – you and I have seen first hand that people have strengths and resources I couldn’t possibly have imagined.
Thank you for a career rich in meaning, and filled with challenges and possibilities.
Happy Month!
With love from your life partner,
Susan Mankita, LCSW

Thought for the day: March 13, 2013
The following is from Jesus Calling by Sarah Young...
"Learn to live above your circumstances. This requires focused time with Me, the One who overcame the world. Trouble and distress are woven into the very fabric of this perishing world. Only My Life in you can empower you to face this endless flow of problems with good cheer. As you sit quietly in My Presence, I shine Peace into your troubled mind and heart. Little by little, you are freed from earthly shackles and lifted up above your circumstanced. You gain My perspective on your life, enabling you to distinguish between what is important and what is not. Rest in My Presence, receiving Joy that no one can take away from you. (John 16:33; John 16:22)"

The following is from the book Jesus Calling by Sarah Young.
"When something in your life or thoughts make you anxious, come to Me and talk about it. Bring Me your prayer and petition with thanksgiving, saying: "Thank You, Jesus, for this opportunity to trust You more." Though the lessons of trust that I send to you come wrapped in difficulties, the benefits far outweigh the cost.
Well-developed trust will bring you many blessings, not the least of which is My Peace. I have promised to keep you in perfect Peace to extent that you trust in Me. The world has it backwards, teaching that peace is the result of having enough money, possessions, insurance, and security systems. My Peace, however, is such an all-encompassing gift that is independent of all circumstances. Though you lose everything else, if you gain My Peace you are rich indeed."
Philippians 4:6; Isaiah 26:3
