My day full of "Jesus Moments"
Monday, January 14, 2013 was a day full of "Jesus Moments". It has been awhile since I have had a day like that. It seriously encouraged me and increased my faith and trust in God. What happened, you may ask? Well here is the details.....
One of my prayer requests and goals for this year is to have a deeper, more grounded relationship with God. So as always, God has me on a new journey. Every morning I try to spend time with Jesus. I read my bible and whatever devotional book(s) of my choosing and have my prayer journal near by to write down any messages/thoughts I may receive as well as things I am praying for.
Anyway, on Monday, I received three messages from God. The first message was from Numbers (the fourth book in the Bible). I read Numbers chapters 13 and 14. I felt God speaking to me through those chapters. And this is what I got from those chapters: God has blessed me so much and has brought me thus far on my journey, He is not going to just drop me now. But because of my lack of faith sometimes, I miss out on further blessings. I need to keep up my faith and stay encouraged because God always makes good on His promises. The next two messages were from the book called Jesus Calling by Sarah Young. I didn't read Jesus Calling on Sunday so I read Sunday and Monday both on Monday. So with that said, from Jan. 13 my message from God was "Expect each day to contain surprises"; from Jan. 14 my message from God was "Talk with me about your struggles and feelings of inadequacy. Little by little I will transform your weaknesses into strengths. Remember that your relationship with Me is saturated in grace. Therefore, nothing that You do or don't do can separate you from My presence".
After those three messages, I was feeling very encouraged and ready to tackle my day. I finished praying and asked God to stop the rain just long enough for me to walk 1.5 miles (one-way) to the pharmacy and back home. By the time I finished getting dressed and ready to walk to the pharmacy the rain had stopped and the sun was shinning so bright. I was so excited, I said a quick thank You Jesus and headed out the door. I started my walk and was about to reach the small bridge that I had to cross when all of a sudden out of nowhere three bluebirds came and flew ahead of me. They stayed ahead of me until I crossed the bridge and was near the pharmacy building. I picked up my prescriptions and was surprised to see that they had given me a few months worth so it cuts down on how many times I get to visit the pharmacy which to me is always a blessing. I packed up my bag and proceeded to head home. It was still sunny when I left the pharmacy. When I got to the main street to walk back home, again out of nowhere three bluebirds flew ahead of me. The bluebirds stayed with me until I was almost home.
I thanked God for showing me that He loves me and takes care of me. How was I shown that you asked, well for one I took the three bluebirds to represent God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. And not only were there three birds but they were blue. Blue is my ultimate favorite color in the world. Look at that picture, isn't it such a pretty bird? I couldn't help but smile and thank God for His love. He doesn't miss a detail. The rain never came while I was walking. God is so good. So after all of that I thought I was done with my gifts from God for this Monday. But God wasn't done. I also received a package from my mother which I wasn't expecting for another few days.
Monday was an amazing day for me. God gave me three messages that I needed. He showed me how much He loves me and then to top it all off He gave me a few surprises throughout the day.
My dear reader, I don't know what you are going through in your life at this moment, but do know that Jesus is a everlasting friend. He doesn't miss any details of your life. He is ready to give you what you need and encourage you. Just turn to Him and ask Him for His love, grace and strength. I hope and pray that God will reveal His love for you in a way that you can't deny and that it will encourage you from here on out.

The Illusion of Control
This year one of the devotional books I am reading on a daily basis is a Woman's Devotional entitled Blessed. The editor is Ardis Dick Stenbakken. As I did last year, I will share with you the entries that have touched me and I felt that it was something to share with the world. With that said, the entry I am posting is dated January 7, 2013 and was written by Juli Blood.
The Illusion of Control
A man's heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps. Prov. 16: 9, NKJV
How many of us struggle to control ourselves and our environments? For must of us this need to control leads to stress and frustration. IN some it leads to eating disorders or other destructive behavior. One day as I was lying on the bed with my 6-month-old son he reached up and began to play with my hand. I relaxed and let him explore as he moved my hand closet and then pushed it away. He would move it left and right, and try twisting it now and again. If he tried to move it in a way that was uncomfortable I simply moved my elbow or shoulder to remove the pressure or gently corrected him. He played this way for quite a while as he is a very curious little boy.
Suddenly it occurred to me that he might think he was in control. After all, if he wanted my hand to go left, it went left. Logically, he could reason that he was in control. As he was only 6 months old, I doubt he actually, came to this conclusion, but others might have--not about my son moving my hand, but about their ability to control the hand of God. We are told to pray and ask God for the desires of our heart--for healing, help and comfort, as well as anything else. However, God is not a magical genie in a bottle, and many times, even though we ask, He says, "No," or "Wait". But there are times that what we pray for is the will of God, and the answer is yes. If we are blessed to have many of those prayers answered time after time, we may feel that our diligent prayers or some other activity that we are doing is causing God to do as we ask.
This is dangerous thinking. Like Peter, when he was walking on the Sea of Galilee, it can cause us to sink, and if we aren't careful, we will drown. Why? Because Satan loves to encourage these types of thoughts. They cause us to take out eyes off Jesus and to put them on ourselves. We must never forget that God is always in control. When our prayers are answered with a "Yes," of course we rejoice. But instead of the answer indication that God is doing our bidding, we know that we are doing His will.
Each day, as we hold the had of God in faith, it is important to remember that though we hold God's hand, we don't control it. Rejoice in the joy and peace of knowing that God is in control--always.

James 1: 2-4, The Clear Word
"...when sufferings and temptation come your way, try to face them joyfully. You know that when your faith in God is tested and survives the test, it will be stronger than before. So hold on and let your faith be tested, because as it survives and mature, your character will mature as well and you will become even more steadfast."
